AboutMahy studio is based in Tauranga, New Zealand.
The studio is run by Warren Mahy, who for the past 20 years has been a freelance concept designer, story board artist, sculptor, production illustrator and 3d modeller. His most notable work so far would be his contribution to the designing of creatures and characters for Sir Peter Jackson's film blockbusters, The Lord of The Rings, his story boarding on the Hobbit film trilogy and more recently his boarding on 'Ghost in the Shell and MEG. His influence can also be seen in numerous other films, including the remake of King Kong and Andrew Adamson's Narnia series. Warren's illustrations are also seen in print, predominantly within the Trading card and the Role playing industry. Story boarding for film and TV commercials is one of his passions and he enjoys the link between illustration and story telling. When Warren is not in his studio, he can be found playing with his kids, helping his wife in the garden, making noise on an instrument or in his shed playing at being a grease monkey.
WritingWarren has written a number of articles for industry magazines on story boarding, previsualisation and concept design (links to articles on request).
